well...

So, I have tried to be better about this blogging thing. But as per usual, I have failed. Its going to become one of my goals to blog daily. I suck at keeping a journal, so I want to get better about this so that later on in life, if someone wants to know about me and my life, they don't have to depend on me to tell them.

A lot has happened since my last post, but I won't bore you with the deets. I'll just start from here and keep up with everything.

I will tell you one thing though. It's almost my half birthday, which means that I'm about 6 months from turning 25. Oh my. When I turned 24, I started what I like to refer to as a "Mid-20s Crisis". Turning 24 was a huge thing in my mind. I thought "I'm closer to 25 than 20. And when I turn 25, I'll basically be 30 about 5 minutes later." So, I got myself kicked out of my family's house, and moved in with a roommate. Then I pierced my cartilage, dyed my hair black and went from there. Fast forward 6 months later, my hair is now brown and red! And I haven't really done anything on my list of "25 things to do before I'm 25". So, now I'm going to start doing those things, since I've only got 6 months to do about 20 of the things. One of them is to finish my college blog that I started. I'm going to start working on that. Today. Another one of them is to get into a habit of blogging. And I think I want to add "become a youtuber" or something like that to my list. I want to start making videos like Joey Graceffa, Tyler Oakley, Sawyer Hartman, Marcus Butler, and many others... I love watching their videos!!

undecided.

So, I started this blog several weeks... or maybe months ago. It was intended to be dedicated to the next chapter of my life, after college. But alas, my life is insanely boring now and I'm just not sure what direction I want to take it in. Here's a snippet of my life to the 5 month mark after "college graduation".

I came home and spent about 3 months searching for jobs and helping out around the house with the kids while Eileen was sick. About a week after I came home, she got a kidney stone and went to the ER. They found that she had a HUGE mass on one of her ovaries, and would have to have surgery. Never fear, all is well now.

I found a job in mid October, and started working at the Disney Store, which was awesome. For about 5 minutes. Then it began to suck epically. Needless to say, I got a second job. At a store called Knowledge Tree. I did both for about 3 weeks before it got to be too much to be worth all of the effort. So, I quit the Disney Store and work at Knowledge Tree full time. I have made some pretty great friends there, and its been really nice to finally feel like I belong somewhere. Susanna and Kyle have made my Memphis life so much better!

I have also gotten involved with an organization called Youth Villages. They have a program called Runner's Club, where they bring the kids out and have them walk or run a mile. We volunteers are there to give the kids someone to talk to if that is what they desire. Its been an amazing opportunity to meet some awesome kids and has put me in touch with many people that have had an impact on my life. One of these impacts was my choice to volunteer for the St Jude Marathon. Earlier in December I was a super course monitor for the marathon. It was so amazing to be out there and see all of the people that were running for such a great cause. I saw people of all kinds. From visually impaired to amputees to those in wheel chairs. It was simply amazing. I was between miles 18 and 19, which is where people REALLY need encouragement. I loved being there to cheer them on and protect them on the course. I can't wait for it to come around again next year. I have been inspired to start running. I have a goal to begin in the new year, and start training to complete a 5K in March. I haven't picked one yet, but I will! I also want to do the color run, and then the St Jude 5K later in the year. I want to run the St Jude 5K and then still volunteer in the last half of the marathon.

This brings me to another of my running inspirations. My Aunt, Jennifer Hanekamp, has just completed one of the most inspiring things I have seen in my life. She wrote "In the past year, there were approximately 48,130 new cancer cases in the state of Georgia. That is 132 a day! Sadly, several individuals dear to me have been a part of those statistics. I am sure that many of you have felt the frustration and helplessness that comes from watching a loved one go through the brutal cancer "journey". Many times, part of the frustration comes from that family member or friend not being able to receive adequate health care. Perhaps, due to their inability to work, there are significant struggles for them to pay for even the basic necessities. Cancer is all-encompassing and quickly invades all aspects of a patient's life. Since 2002, the non-profit organization Henry County Cancer Services  has been dedicated to assisting local individuals, along with their families, whose lives have been wholly altered by cancer.  I am so impressed with their efforts and the fact that they are able to give 97% of the donations they receive directly to the individual needs of local cancer patients. The needs in our community, however, significantly outweigh their resources. That is why, in honor of the 132 individuals diagnosed in a day, I will run 132K in a day (from Milledgeville to McDonough) and with your help, raise as much money as possible. My hope is that we may assist Henry County Cancer Services in expanding their generous umbrella to cover more of our cancer-stricken community members. I want to make the miles count, and I know that together we can make a difference! I will also be running in honor of those in my life that have been afflicted by some form of cancer this past year, along with any names of loved ones that are submitted. The names (and whatever other information you wish to share) of your loved one will be represented on an individual sign posted along the 132K route. Please click here to submit a name. For questions, click here." For more of her story please go to Making The Miles Count. She ran for 24 hours, and 82 miles. That is AMAZING. I am awed by her strength and determination. She is one of my role models, and I am so proud to call her my aunt. I could have gone to a YSA dance tonight, and there's no doubt that I would have had fun. But I can safely say that I am right where I should have been. I can't think of a better way to ring in the new year than by watching a huge accomplishment by a member of my family. I had tears in my eyes as I watched her journey, and read her list of cancer heroes. I was astonished by the number of heroes on her route that I actually knew!
  1. Dan Hanekamp- Glioblastoma stage 4
  2. William Hanekamp- Prostate Cancer
6. Aaron McWright- Anaplasticastrocytoma grade 3
46. Tyler Allred- Leukemia
67. Julie Allred- Breast Cancer
128. Diana VanHoy- Breast Cancer

This has been a great year, and I am satisfied with 2012. Hopefully 2013 will bring great things to pass. Happy New Year, ya'll. More posts will be coming. And I hope I'm not lying right now, when I say that I won't slack on this one... but in all actuality, I probably will. Its what I do best.

Peace. Love. Hanga.
